From bare grass to ninja gym
How we build a custom backyard ninja course
Every rig we build is custom. We plan it around your yard, the ages of your ninjas and the obstacles on their wish list, then build it right there in your backyard. Here's how it goes, with photos from our job sites.
-
01Plan & set posts
Every build starts with your yard: the ground, the slope, the space and how easily we can get materials in. We map the rig to the space you have, the ages of your ninjas and the goals they're training for.
Then the posts go in. Every post is set and braced, so the frame starts square and solid.
-
02Frame it strong
Heavy timber beams and braces go up next. This is the part that carries all the swinging, hanging and climbing, so it has to be built tough.
Angled braces lock the corners together, and steel bars run across the top to hold the obstacles.
-
03Stain & finish
Once the frame is up, it gets stained. The finish gives the wood a rich amber color that looks great in the yard and stands up to the weather.
Stain and finish are part of what goes into your quote, along with the rig's size and how complex the course is.
-
04Hang the fun
Rings, grips and holds go on, set up for the ages and skill levels in your family. Progressive obstacles mean little ninjas and serious competitors can both train on the same rig.
Then your ninjas get their first run.
-
05The walk-through
Before the first swing, we walk every family through the house rules and the care routine: the 250 lb maximum user weight, an adult on deck for young ninjas, soft surfacing under the rig, and a quick check for loose hardware before each session.
